Post-Holiday Cleansing and Detoxification

Post-Holiday Cleansing and Detoxification

There's no better time than after the holiday season to embark on a cleansing and de-toxification program, to help your body recover from the excesses of the holiday season. Whether it was a little too much egg nog, all the tasty Christmas cookies, a few too many celebratory spirits, or just bigger than usual portions at family meals, most people tend to over-indulge themselves during the holiday season. In order to make sure that those extra pounds don't become a permanent part of your landscape, it's a good idea to undertake a post-holiday cleansing, so you can shed all those sugary treats, and hopefully some of the additional pounds as well.

Diet and exercise

You can really do your body a tremendous favor by engaging in a program of de-toxification, healthy dieting, and good exercise. The right combination of these elements will help your body by boosting your energy reserves, increasing your fat-burning metabolism, reducing your appetite, building lean muscle, purifying and cleansing your body, reducing inflammation around the body, and increasing your ability to manage pain when it does crop up. As soon as you begin the program, you'll start to feel better, as your body rids itself of the toxins which have accumulated, and you'll feel better each day as your healthy eating habits take hold, and exercise contributes to your state of well-being.

A regular program of exercise will have the effect of releasing more 'feel-good' endorphins into your body, and these are chemical neuro-transmitters which pass along feelings and sensations from one neuron to the next. Since these endorphins are associated with feelings of pleasure and happiness, continued exercise will supply your body continuously with an increased level of endorphins, and make you feel good about yourself for a prolonged period of time.

Detoxification is usually linked to a cleansing diet, which includes substances that promote a thorough cleaning out of harmful toxins which have built up within the body. These toxins accumulate from normal cell activity, and are present in the form of lactic acid, homocysteine, and ammonia, and if these toxins are not eliminated, they can do damage to cell tissue, and even lead to diseases. A de-tox diet is generally rich in fruits, vegetables, and antioxidants, along with a number of organic foods, and they emphasize minimal ingestion of foods with chemicals in them.

Increasing your results

If you really want to increase the intensity of your program, you can also add in various nutritional supplements which can accelerate the processes you've begun with your diet and exercise program. There are supplements you can take which will increase the rate of your metabolism for fat-burning, there are supplements rich in antioxidants, and there are also various additives which can be ingested to improve your healthy dieting approach. If you have any doubt about which ones are best for you, simply consult your doctor, or even discuss it with the pharmacist at your local drug store or nutrition center.
